Evaluation Question 6 - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation Question 5 - How did you attract/address your target audience?

In our media product we tried to attract our target audience in many different ways. We used a narrative that would appeal to both genders as the violence would attracts boys whereas the problems within the group dynamic would be more likely to interest girls.

In order to attract our target audience we had to get them to engage in our media product. To do this we included some of Barthes narrative codes within our opening; for example the hermeneutic code (creating questions within our audiences minds to keep them interested and to encourage them to piece together the story line e.g. where is eddie? Why can’t they get hold of him?) and the semic code (giving our audience details about our characters, e.g. Charlie is 'confident' and 'attractive', so that they can build up an understanding of the character).

Moreover we developed our characters in a way that helped us to appeal to our target audience by using actors of a similar age to our target audience. This makes the film seem more reminiscent and realistic for our audience, therefore making it scarier.
In our opening we used camera shots that the target audience can use to easily identify the main characters. The close ups (CU) of Charlie and Katie make it immediately obvious they kill be key to the rest of the film. The use of Close Ups (CU) also encourages identification with the character because they take the audience into the mind of the character. For example, the shot of Katie getting looking in the mirror will feel familiar to many girls watching the film.
The location that we used would also appeal to our target audience, because it would be reminiscent of their everyday lives.
Furthermore, whilst researching thrillers it became apparent that music played a great part in creating an eerie atmosphere. Therefore, we knew that to attract and hook our audience we had to use music that created suspense and that heightened tension. The music we used had a distinctly eerie quality which helped build tension, as well as being something that both the characters and our target audience would listen to, reinforcing the way in which we attempted to immerse out audience in a situation they could relate to.

We showed our friends the video to see if we had successfully attracted our target audience. We showed some people the video in school but we also uploaded it on to our facebook and youtube accounts to get a wider range of opinions.
